Does burning aluminum cans in fire place help keep creosote down in chimney pipe ?
No and also the stuff you can buy that claims to do the job doesn’t do much either. If you are burning wood regularly for heat you should have your chimney cleaned every fall. If you are only using the fireplace / stove on occasion it could go a couple of years. It is good practise to burn only hard wood if possible and do not burn garbage such as pizza boxes, paper products and so on. The trick to keeping a chimney clean is to burn a hot fire. Soft wood and garbage burn cooler than hard wood and as a result you have incomplete combustion which coats your chimney with creosote.
