Energy Saving Downlights
Fluorescent lights are not necessarily low energy.?
Leaving them on NEVER saves energy.
Low voltage halogen downlights are the worst.
Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are efficient compared to incandescent lamps but perhaps not the panacea some claim them to be.
Do you agree with the above?
If not, give reasons.
I do not buy into the propaganda that global warming is caused by SUV's, fluorescents and cow farts. I find, through a little study, that it is a historically natural long-term cycle of the earth. So, although using compact fluorescents may not reverse this very natural occurence, it will save you a little money. Compact fluorescents produce many more lumens per watt than incandescents, so you are correct in saying they are more efficient. However, technically speaking, leaving on an 18-watt compact fluorescent will save energy compared to leaving on an equivalent 60-watt incandescent for the same length of time. I believe you are correct in stating that low-voltage lamps are the most inefficient.
