Solar Panel Demonstration Ideas?
Hey I'm going to build a scale model house and demonstrate how to use solar panels to provide energy. I am thinking of buying solar panels and wiring kit up some lights to show how the power of the house. I also could connect a battery in the house to show how energy can be stored. I could also have a battery connected across the street to represent a power plant that could emergency power. Any ideas or comments would be great. Thanks
Hey Al, great idea. I do not know the size of the model is, or what you are used for lighting and such. This is what I've been doing. We have a solar and wind energy in the home of the Northern Great Lakes. In recent years, I has entered the local school and the teaching of a solar energy workshop for students in grades 5. I do not have a model home, but some things just pile on a table, as a small radio, a couple lamps and portable DVD player. For fun I added a series of LED Christmas lights and a DC fan from links trucks. All this material is connected to a battery of 12 volts for motor trawler. Christmas lights and a compact fluorescent bulb is driven by a small investor in the auto parts store, which is also connected to the battery. I show the children of our small "home" and then pull the plug from the wall, he is not doing anything anyway, and see that a power failure does not affect them. That is I have a 50 watt solar panel with a DC plug in a long cable that children are being created abroad and facing the sun, and when I plug in the battery, you can see the stress of finding some. A couple ammeters demonstrate how much the household is using, and how the panel is working. On a good day, the panel can perform all the things in our house and have a little more left to charge the battery. This is a great way to illustrate how a solar home and the children like to get involved. Then we have a field visit to our house so they can see a real change of solar energy work first, but the classroom activity is really fulfilling even without the field trip. What I suggest is that you look for a battery of this type, even hours from 75 to 100 amps if you can find one, or more to buy a panel, no more than 50 watts. This panel so as not to overload the battery if connected by an hour or so without any battery. I do not know if the model is to maintain this battery, or you could add a yard shed it. Then, to the effect, into a switch that changes the model of the house across the battery to a converter 12-volt plugs into the wall. You can simulate a power failure by disconnecting and then turn to the battery. Many possibilities. There is a great magnitude that gets into the intricacies of this, Home Power Magazine. Our house was even highlighted in a couple of times. I suggest a subscription to the same line, is not expensive, then use its search engine to find an article entitled, "Treating the first small system. This is what he is doing. Good luck with your project, and look … Rudydoo
