How many amps is needed to load a portable battery with solar power?
I want to build a solar panel with a bunch of cells I have lots and together produce 18v and 1.25amps. The battery is 18V and 3.2 amps. So am I correct in assuming that it will take approximately 3 times longer than normal to charge the battery on my laptop in perfect conditions of solar?
You will have a higher voltage than the battery recharging. with increasing applied voltage current flow begin a battery in the reverse direction when the discharges. The amount of current used during charging depend on the additional amount of voltage over the battery potential is applied, the internal resistance of the battery and the charger abiiity supply current at rated voltage. The number of amps the charger is a charger supply capacity to the rated current upto while being able to supply the voltage. If your demands of the most common battery charger that can supply the load voltage will collapse to a lower potential. Conversly if the battery does not require much current only the amount of current required by the battery charger will be drawn ..
