Sewer Gas Odors of abuse in the pipes?
We own a house where the previous owners started plumbing for his bar. We had a plumber come and cover the pipeline would be used for the bar sink. We have noticed a strange odor coming from the area of the pipe exposed. We cut our basement carpet and floor to discover that there were other four pipes. Currently, one of the holes in that area has a valve return (with a ping pong ball to stop the water comes down the pipe) the other pipe is open and just to the right of the hole one. We poured water down the tube and the hole and seems to have stopped the smell, but the water has not been down at all. Is this normal?
Yes ... is normal ... The pipeline was supposed to have "P-Trap" to hold water, sewer outside the closure on the tube .... Gass if it has not fallen, it is working properly ... you did good .... only keep water in it until the job is done.
