What's wrong with my boiler?
For the second time in about 6 months, my boiler pressure has just dropped to 0 bar suddenly for no apparent reason. I check the plumbing of the house and can see no leaks anywhere and no valves are open where it should not. The pressure not to fall gradually over a long period of time. Instead I go to bed one night, then jump in the shower the next morning to be greeted with ice cold water and a discovery that the boiler pressure is at zero. I have a valve near the boiler to get a back up to 0.7 bar pressure, but I worry that something more serious I can not find that is causing this loss of pressure.
I guess from your question that you have a condensing combi boiler - because they do not have a header tank and are sealed have to be a place for the excess pressure created when water is heated (and expands) and - the expansion tank is inside the boiler or external - looking a bit like a balloon near the boiler - as is said there could be a leak in the membrane between the two halves of this ship, however, in case of overheating, there is a pressure release valve the Hot Water and steam for tanks, I hope, point out. If the boiler is on and running hot enough to turn this valve releases the pressure and then, as the system cools, may fall below a level of performance. The discharge pipe must be outside near the boiler or the expansion tank and, if installed properly, they leave the wall, bend and then turn back so that the open end toward the wall - to cool the water quickly out of the building - check to see if the wall this tube is wet and what is need to check the pressure relief valve and is set to increase (get corgi plumber to do this if you are unsure of what we are doing.)
