Anybody ever try to dry the vegetables with a large solar collector?
I saw the plans online to do this. Basically, the version I saw it was only a shallow box with a glass face where the sunlight penetrates the box. The heat rises to another painting in the square where the vegetables are placed. Are established on the screens to allow warm air to pass over them and dry the vegetables. I looked at the plans for this type of "solar heating" a while ago to heat the house and I know that temps can reach as high as 50 degrees above the outside (ambient) temp. Anyone ever this? Any idea how well they work? How much of this type of heat (about 120 degrees F out of the box) to accelerate the drying process? Thank you!
This could work! Any excess heat is better than nothing. And the outside air is dry in winter. I made the meat dry with hot air from the heater vent on the floor, with a similar arrangement of the boxes and wire mesh (screens).
