Heating a greenhouse?
Just had a conservatory built 7'x8 '. Is 8 mm polycarbonate. The frame is made of wood treated again. The door is an insulated door. It has a single sliding window. Has anyone tried placing water containers in the greenhouse to help with expenses heating in the winter? If so, how many gallons of water is taken to keep the greenhouse warm enough at night? I hope that some kind of small ceramic heater and the water is stored in this heat during the winter. Also, any idea how long this goes on a power bill? Does anyone use a small fan that is provided by solar panels? Does it work? Can you tell me what type of fan and what kind of solar panel? Or, use electricity to power a small fan as well as low cost? I live in Missouri. During the winter, you can get to -10, 0, and often in their teens, thirties temperature. If you've used anything that helps with the heating (or cooling) costs, please share what you've done. Thank you!
I live in California, so I really do not know much about 10 below. But I know that electric heat is drying. I would use propane. The plants produce some of the heat in the house green. Here in California, in my house to change from green, used for Christmas lights help keep the plants warm and candles. Keep plants up off the ground. You will have to grow lights and also help. They sell rubber heating pads that you can set your plants into the roots to keep warm. Keep plants grouped together. That helps too. If not use a section of the green house and then the section off with plastic so its not havng to keep warm. Cardboard is a great insulating the soil and that does not prevent the light enters the light you need .. just not the cold.
