But the way light is used in another way now-a-day, so that has opened on the new horizon in renewable energy, solar electricity. This process of converting light into electricity is called PV or photovoltaics.
How solar cells or solar panels work?
Solar Cells convert light directly into electricity. On a sunny day, electrical energy converted from an area of 1 square meter can supply a 100 watt bulb light. Solar cells or cells PV are generally based on silicon (silicon is an element from sand) pieces that absorb sunlight.
One end of Silicon (Si) is doped piece with boron (B), which is considered positive (+ VE) end and the other end is doped with phosphorus (P), which is negative (-ve) end. When light falls on the cell solar electrons are displaced from the silicon atoms. However, the electrons tend to move into the match that attracts electrons (negative charges). Hence, there is a surplus of electrons? Final sees and the scarcity of electrons in the extreme + ve.
If a conductive line formed outside the cell between the + ve and? ends see, an electric current is generated and a working circuit is built. This electricity is a current or DC (unidirectional flow) as a battery. But DC is not suitable for common use, so it is converted to DC through an inverter? to alternating current or alternating current. This current can be transformed into necessary? This process of converting sunlight into electricity is called the photovoltaic process.
