Critical issues for robotic applications
The technology of the 21st century promises to bring computing power and efficiency of laptops and mobile handsets to new heights. But one feature that remains crucial to the delivery of these powerful devices for their usefulness is their energy battery. Batteries for mobile devices remains a sensitive issue that unless satisfactorily addressed, will just limit the growing power of handheld devices only a few minutes of use.
Power up
In robotics, the same issue must be addressed if robots are to be deployed in any given place or unlimited mobility. While this will not be a problem in the application of robot stationary manufacturing plants, a critical examination is powered mobile robots, as they move on motorized wheels in humans and artifacts of the leg. The current progress in hybrid cars seems the best solution for the wheeled robots with only one caveat - size.
Characters like the robot from Pixar's film Wall-E. C3PO and R2D2 in the Star Wars franchise Spielberg are quite amazing in their roles but these films is how they shine more power. We know that Wall-E is the solar charge and that could signal another option for taking simple robots. Great mobile robots that can do more complex tasks that require a solution that enables more reliable in any climate. Nuclear fusion (as opposed fission used in the manufacture of nuclear warheads) is another promise here, but it is a technology that has been waiting for new and safer ways energy sources.
A good solution would be separate use independent power sources for each robot function important, such as mobility, cognition, computer science, telecommunications and database functions. Therefore, losing the power of mobility does not compromise other functions and might even benefit from the cross-fertilization of their other sources of energy, and vice versa for other functions of robotics.
Miniaturization
We all know that the vast computing power of PCs and laptops, but are small enough to fit into a cube or a sphere no larger than a skull human? If cell phones and game consoles are an indication, perhaps they can. Nanotechnology miniaturization promises to bring the next level of bio-sizes molecular mechanisms that may increase tenfold the current calculation ability of processors and memory modules at a fraction of its current radius.
Allowing robotic applications to exercise any autonomy mindset will require huge inferential databases that can store data so they can learn and take decisions and actions without human intervention. More than anything, this is what distinguishes computers robots - autonomous thought and action. And you can not do that with current discs revolve hard drives. This technology is old, unreliable (vulnerable to accidents induced motion) and insufficient. While accumulating 203 1 TB disk hard work could still slow and heavy.
Enter the solid state hard drive. It is amazing that the computer companies have preferred to concentrate all their time and energies to increase capacity and seek times of traditional hard drives when they could have done with the devices of solid state storage which remain a costly alternative at this time. His unit of 16 GB of flash storage technology uses solid-state has successfully reduced the price per GB in past 12 months. GP
