Thermal conversion. Kilowatt-hour in KW?
So I did some calculations based on some numbers he found off the Internet. My father wants to replace their gas heating with electricity, solar-powered ..... I said a bad idea, but I tried to estimate the cost .... I'm not sure if I'm doing well. So he uses 380 mcf / month of Natural Gas, which makes me 3800 CCF / month (100 cubic feet in the CCF 1000 cubic feet .... in MCF) 1 CCF of natural gas is approximately 1 therm 1 therm is 29,305.5 watt-hour when divided by 30 for 1 day and Watts get 3.7 * 10 ^ 6-hr (3800 CCF * 29,305.5 / 30) Conservative estimates for the solar panels are 5 hours of full sun ... 3.7 * 10 ^ 6 watt hours / 5 h = 7.4 * 10 ^ 5 watts * ******** Not sure if done correctly *********** $ 4.82 / watt * 7.4 * 10 ^ 5 W = $ $ 3.6 million thanks.
You dropped something. I do not understand little about the MCF, CCF, etc. but 1 therm = 30kwhr Let me assume that uses 100 therms per month, you can change as needed. 100 therms = 3000kwhr In about $ 0.10/kwhr this is $ 300 per month, the cost of electricity from the power company. Translation 3000kwhr to kw, we have to divide by the number of hours in a month, 720. For 4.1kw Solar panels seem to run about $ 4 per watt, not including installation, electronics, etc. I double for other costs. Thus, $ 8 / w "So you are trying to calculate the capital investment to generate 4.1kw so for a crude calculation, multiply 4100 watts for $ 8 for get $ 32,000. But the sun does not shine 24 hours a day. In the winter is only 5 hours, so we have to multiply by 5, or $ 160,000. But that does not consider the batteries and investors to provide power when the sun is not shining, and it could double or triple the costs. Hope this helps.
