Choosing a solar water panel
A good way to make their own renewable Hot Water and reduce your electric bill is to install a solar panel water system at home. But before you go out and buy any system, here are some tips to help you find the best option.
1. Number and size of the panels
A solar panel is usually water 1 meter wide and 2 meters long. Depending on how much hot water you need, from 1 to 3 panels is usually sufficient. The number needed panels can be easily calculated by a reputable solar installer.

2. Types of panels
There are 2 main types of solar water heating technology: flat plate and vacuum tube technology.

Here, the tank is installed directly over the panels on the roof. It is a passive system, since it uses only water pressure of natural physical and to maintain the flow of water - the water is heated and rises to the tank, cold water is based on the electricity grid, which flows through of solar heat collectors and the tank.
If the tank is mounted far from the showers and other hot water outlets may not be the best option. The more the tank is where most needed, the longer it takes to receive the water, and be slightly cooler to travel through the pipes. A tank that protrudes from a roof is not an aesthetically attractive view either.
Inner tank: Also known as "Split solar active solar hot water system "
Here, the solar collectors on the roof, with the tank installed inside, where the current tank. For the deposit to collect hot water, a small electric pump that is needed. 5. Frost vulnerability
In very cold regions, frost may be a factor. In winter, heavy frosts can freeze water in the panels. As the water freezes, it expands and could break the panels. This can be avoided in two ways: either with closed-loop systems or valves of frost.
If you live in a region much has been frozen, then a closed loop system is best. Here, instead of water, glycol is placed in the panels. As the glycol is heated is transferred to a heat exchanger where it heats the water. Although closed-loop systems are more expensive, the glycol does not freeze, so the panels do not susceptible to frost.
If you only experience occasional freezing, frost valve is sufficient. As the temperature drops, the valve Frost opens, allowing water to be released from the panels and prevent frost damage. Just make sure that the valve of frost is a guarantee Manufacturer before investing in one.

Before you plan to buy and install any solar system water, ask yourself these questions to help you make an informed decision:
- How many people living in the house? - Given that the average person need fifty gallons of hot water a day, this will help you calculate the number of panels and the tank size needed.
- Where is the hot water needed in the house? - If panels are far from the spigots, would not make sense to install a solar Water Heater active.
- Does the roof to receive a large amount of direct sunlight? - This will determine what type of coating to get in the collectors.
- The winters are very cold? - If not, then a frost valve will suffice.
- How much can I spend and how long I am willing to wait to get my return on investment?
